As customary, we meet to pray for the souls in purgatory. We share our understanding of the message of the Blessed Virgin, given to us last month. I feel a special unity is forming among us as we consider the words of the Blessed Mother.
She is amongst again: The souls of the departed are again around us. I hear as from a distance the voices beginning to recite the Rosary. The face of the Blessed Mother radiates love and what I believe is concern and urgency. She speaks:
What I say to you all is for your time, not for a distant time. I said that the judgment of the Father belongs to Him alone. No one can influence it. Too many of you say, “God would not do so,” or “God understands me and therefore forgives me, He would not punish me so,” or more terribly “if God did this, He would be unjust”.
I tell you most firmly that the Father, God the Almighty and Most Just judges in all justice for the good of each and all. You will understand the meaning of what I say when Fr _____ will reveal the state of his soul to you. Do not deceive yourselves that God’s judgement is according to human manipulation of the conscience. Do not deceive yourselves into believing that God’s goodness is only present in that which pleases you. Do not deceive yourselves that as you deceive yourselves you may also deceive God, your Father and distract Him from His justice. The truth of your state is that human society is sanctioning too much of that which is evil in human behaviour. I therefore entreat you, dearest and foolish children, to repent that which you know offends God your Father as it infringes His Law. When you repent you must consider deeply the effects of the sins on your souls. If you do so sincerely you will feel sorrow. Thereafter you will increase the discipline which will assist you in refraining from committing sin again. The integrity of the human soul was torn asunder by the original corruption. You can only trust the instinct of your nature when they progress from an uncorrupted and non-concupiscent state of your soul.
I entreat you again to mortify in yourselves all those instincts which lead you further away from the integrity of the nature which God Almighty gave you. You can do that by observing God’s Law. You can do that by repenting your mistakes and by considering the consequences of your sin on your brothers. If the thief repents that he has stolen, he will not only be sorry for his sin, but he will also return to the owner all that he has stolen. When complete reparation is not possible, as in the case when murder is committed, then sorrow for the act of murder must be as deep as the murderer can develop with the help of Jesus, my Son.
Human actions reflect the state of the soul. It is therefore not sufficient to keep hidden into the spirit the sorrow for your committed sin. The proud person cannot repent of his pride until more humble behaviour replaces pride, visibly, nor can sensual desires be discarded until they are severed from the behaviour of the person.
Therefore, understand that repentance, while beginning in the secret soul of the person, must be expressed in the changed behaviour of the penitent soul. Repentance, sorrow and penitence are the first steps of the sinner towards salvation. When these first steps are taken, obedience to God’s Law becomes easier.
She stops talking, folds her hands over the Bible which she holds in her right hand, smiles.
I bend to the ground. When I look up I see that she has gone.
